Source of True Wisdom
I'm pretty sure By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept was the first Paulo Coelho book that I read. Over the years since then, I've read many of his other books. If you're looking for a good, easy read that will help you to reflect on life, then I highly recommend Paulo Coelho.
The quote above is really important for this day and age. With people so addicted to their phones that they can't drive a car or take a shit without having their cell phone in hand, it's a scary reflection of our condition. Is the phone in charge of the human? or the human in charge of the phone?
If "all wisdom" is "the result of listening to one's own soul," but yet so many people are too busy obsessively looking at their phones at every waking moment, then are we living in a society that is losing its wisdom?
The remedy? Disconnect. While you're traveling, keep your phone in your pocket and actually look around at the people and world around you. While you're taking a shit, just sit and let your mind wander. Take some time on the weekend, or maybe even take a sick day, to dedicate yourself to a solid block of time where you simply sit, or lay down, or take a walk, while allowing your mind to roam and truly listen to what your soul tells you.
You'll feel better for it. In fact, our spiritual and mental health depend on these breaks for mindfulness. And everything will still be online when you check back in later.
