Come to me, all you in need of legal help!
"O you shunn'd persons, I at least do not shun you, I come forthwith in your midst, I will be your poet, I will be more to you than to any of the rest." -- Walt Whitman, Leaves of Grass, Children of Adam, Native Moments
Hail to the misfits,
to the imperfect,
to the sinners,
to those who are judged by the haughty and self-righteous.
Cheers to the poor and ignored,
to those on the periphery of society,
to the dissed and the disabled,
to the everyday working-people, busting their asses day-in day-out.
Abrazos to those who no hablan inglés muy bien,
to those who are migrants or sons and daughters of migrants,
to those who aren't "good enough,"
to those who don't fit in or stand out.
Big ups to those who don't fit a label or category or political party,
to those who realize there's a whole rainbow between black and white,
to those who know that the thoughts and beliefs in a person's inner soul are so individual and nuanced and unique,
to those who have the guts and courage to be themselves in this world of mass media and global culture.
Greetings to those who are the stereotype of the mainstream,
whether they be rich or powerful or suburban or propertied,
who are reviled by some with envy in their eye and thus excluded,
precisely because they are neither an underdog nor a cause célèbre.
I want all of you to be my clients! I accept you all for who you are,
not for your sins, since I too have committed sins,
but as I hope you accept me for who I am.
And I ask you all to accept each other,
even those who may be an opposing party in your case!
have mercy on each other,
forgive each other so that you too may be forgiven.
