GET TO KNOW F. TIGHE BURNS
F. Tighe Burns is an attorney who practices family law and family-based immigration law.
He is bilingual and bi-literate in English and Spanish. He was born in Bogotá, Colombia to a Costa Rican mother and a U.S. citizen father. He is American -- North, Central, and South -- in the fullest sense of the word.
Tighe has been working in law since the beginning of this century – first as a paralegal, then as a law student, then as a staff attorney, and now as a senior litigation attorney at Spear Wilderman, P.C. He has supervised and mentored numerous law students from area law schools – including Drexel, Villanova, Rutgers-Camden, Penn Law, and his alma mater Temple Law, where he was a Rubin Public Interest Scholar and excelled in Temple's nationally-ranked trial advocacy curriculum, en route to earning his Juris Doctor degree.
He is licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He began studying in earnest for the bar exam after the July 4th holiday; the bar exam is given in the final week of July. When he got to the PA bar examination site, he fist-bumped one of his law school friends and said "it's game-time." Two mornings later, he studied for the NJ bar exam in the parking lot before the test. He passed both PA and NJ bar exams on the first try.
Tighe played football in high school and college, and ran the 40-yard dash in 4.46 seconds. At Gettysburg College, he was called "the fastest dog on campus" and rumor has it he offered to race one-on-one with a college safety & security officer nicknamed Wheels who was renowned for his speed. While there, he also earned his bachelor's degree in Political Science, with a minor in Spanish, falling just one credit short of minors in African-American Studies and History, respectively.
He's traveled to Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America. He's spent time at an oasis in the Sahara. He's hung out at the base of an active volcano in Costa Rica. He's crossed the border from Cambodia to Thailand on foot. He's hitchhiked through Central America, including hitching a ride in a fisherman's boat to cross a river. And he's also taken public buses and walked alone on the roads of Bengaluru, India.
Tighe is a member of the Philadelphia Bar Association Family Law Section Executive Committee. He's a Trustee of Freedom Prep Charter School in Camden, NJ. And most importantly, he's a proud husband and father of two.
